Leland Behunin.  Throughout his life, Leland was well known in the state of Utah for his horticultural knowledge and expertise.  His passion for nature drove him to continually seek for new and innovative ways to care for the trees and plants that are such an integral part of the world in which we live.   After graduating from The Davey Institute of Tree Surgery in Kent, Ohio, Leland specialized in arbor care.  He developed a variety of pruning systems and pioneered the practice of injecting iron and other nutrients into sick trees.  These injections are credited with saving many trees in Salt Lake City, Utah, including several historic trees located on Temple Square and the State Capital grounds.    Leland was also the first arborist to climb, prune and light the historic trees on Temple Square.  Throughout his career, he nurtured the landscapes of many government buildings, businesses and private homes along the Wasatch Front.    Text Box: Our History Text Box: J. Leland Behunin established a high standard in the field of arbor care, and he passed those traditions to his son Benjamin Behunin Sr..  When Leland retired in the late 1960’s, Ben took over his father’s tree service company.  In 1971, Benjamin graduated from Brigham Young University with a B.S. in Ornamental Horticulture.    The company continued to focus in arbor care, as Ben often traveled to St. George and Logan, Utah to prune trees on LDS Temple Grounds and LDS church properties.  He also acted as a consultant on a variety of commercial projects regarding tree health.    In the mid 1970’s, Benjamin began the expansion of the company by starting a residential maintenance division and taking on small landscape installation jobs.  Text Box: About Us
